New Lodge Vineyard About

The home of 'Earls Baron' Northamptonshire Wine

New Lodge Vineyard

New Lodge Vineyard is a small boutique vineyard situated on the outskirts of Earls Barton, set on a picturesque, southwest facing gentle slope overlooking the Nene Valley.  Its location is very near to one of the oldest recorded vineyards of Roman times.

The vineyard was established in 2000 on horse paddocks, providing a lush fertile land of crumbly well drained loam over ironstone, planted with white grape varieties: Bacchus, Phoenix, Solaris and Seyval, and red varieties: Regent and Pinot Noir.  These popular red and white grape varietals were chosen particularly for their suitability to withstand the English microclimate.

Our vines are trellis trained using the traditional ‘Double Guyot’ system. Nonagenarian owner, Joyce Boulos-Hanna, and vineyard manager daughter Gabby tend each and every vine personally by hand, all year round, with love and passion. The grapes are harvested in October and vinified over the following months and years to produce dry still whites, rosé, medium bodied reds, and both pink and white sparkling wines.

Over recent years the ‘Earls Baron’ name has gained tremendous recognition, in particular the Sparkling ‘Nene Valley Nectar‘ and the vineyard continues to enjoy success with Bronze and Silver Awards year in, year out:  over 40 of them now, if anyone’s counting!

“Awards aside, viticulture is our passion.

For us, it’s a way of life and about sharing the

English Wine Experience.”
